Gumtree Posting Policy

As a condition of your use of Gumtree you agree that you are older than 18 years of age.

At Gumtree we want to make sure that the site is as clean, friendly and usable as possible for everyone. Ads that fall outside the posting rules stated here or our Terms of Use may be removed from the site. Posters that regularly break our posting policies may find their future use of the site restricted.

You are solely responsible for all information that you submit to Gumtree and any consequences that may result from your post. We reserve the right at our discretion to refuse or delete content that we believe is inappropriate or breaching our Terms of Use. We also reserve the right at our discretion to restrict a user’s usage of the site either temporarily or permanently, or refuse a user’s registration.

Ensure your advertisement isn't breaching any applicable laws. It is the responsibility of the advertiser before posting an ad on Gumtree that content advertised adheres to Gumtree Posting Policies as well as applicable laws. As a condition of your use of Gumtree specified under our Terms of Use, you agree that you will not violate any laws.

Not descriptive enough
Appears to be a copy of another ad posted on Gumtree
Inappropriate language
Inappropriate photo / image
Discriminatory on race/ religion/ nationality
Location, price or URL's in titles
Offering postage. Gumtree should only be used in face to face local transactions
Selling or offering services for supplements/medicine general or pharmaceutical
Selling body parts / bodily fluids, adoption or surrogacy anywhere on the site
Ads that report other fraudulent ads. Please report potentially fraudulent ads via the "report ad" option located within each ad or contact us with ad details (ad id, email address)

Counterfeit Products, replicas or knock-off brand name goods
Electronic Surveillance Equipment
Embargoed Goods
Endangered or protected species, or any part of any endangered or protected species
Escort services that offer or indicate sexual services
Fireworks, Destructive Devices and Explosives
Government and Transit Badges, Uniforms, IDs, Documents and Licenses
Hazardous Materials including but not limited to radioactive, toxic and explosive materials
Identity Documents, Personal Financial Records & Personal Information
Illegal Drugs, controlled substances, substances and items used to manufacture controlled substances and drugs, & drug paraphernalia
Illegal items and services
Illegal telecommunication and electronics equipment such as access cards, password swiffers, radar scanners, traffic signal control devices or cable descrambler
Items issued to any Armed Force that have not been disposed of in accordance with that country's demilitarization policies
Items which encourage or facilitate illegal activity
Lottery Tickets, Sweepstakes Entries and Slot Machines
Material that is obscene, pornographic, adult in nature, or harmful to minors
Material that infringes copyright, including but not limited to software or other digital goods which you are not authorized to sell
Selling or offering services for supplements/medicine general or pharmaceutical
Offensive material
Pesticides or hazardous materials
Pictures or images that contain nudity
Plants and insects that are restricted or regulated

Prostitution or ads that offer sex, sexual favors or sexual actions in exchange for anything

Used or rebuilt batteries or batteries containing mercury
We do not accept ads selling body parts / bodily fluids, adoption or surrogacy anywhere on the site
Weapons and related items (including, but not limited to firearms, firearm parts and magazines, ammunition, paintball guns, BB and pellet guns, tear gas, teasers, stun guns, switchblade knives, martial arts weapons, archery and/or bow and arrow equipment)

Gumtree reserves the right to remove any postings that we feel are not relevant, or of value to the Gumtree community, with or without notice.

Flat / House Share

Rule of thumb: if you live in the house yourself and wish to let a room within, you can advertise in this section. If you do not actually live in the house, then these sections are not for you.

If ads are indiscriminately posted in multiple, irrelevant categories, they will be removed.

No links to other accommodation websites.

Flats / Houses to Rent

The “Flats/Houses to Rent” sections of Gumtree are for advertising entire flats or houses to rent. Rooms offered within a flat or house should be in “Flat / House Share”.

Please ensure that each ad ONLY advertises one property.

No links to other accommodation websites in ads.

Please note that we reserve the right to remove ads where these breach our Posting Policies and/or our Terms of Use

Stuff for Sale

The “For sale” categories have been designed for private sellers and buyers ONLY. If you are a commercial retailer or conducting a business through your postings then please use the Business Services section.

No links to auction sites or links to your ad posted on another site. Remember, you can use as much space as you like and you can even include a photo, so there is no need to direct people elsewhere.

Tickets for sporting or music events at prices above or below face values must state the face value. We do not support ticket touts or scalpers and ads not containing the face vale of the ticket will be removed.

We do not allow postings advertising the sale of ANYTHING illegal including the following: drugs, weapons, obscene, erotic items/material, cigarettes or tobacco products.

No pet ads – please see the Pets section under Community

Community

All of the “Community” sections are ONLY for postings from individual community members and NOT for commercial advertisement or promotion.

Pets

The Gumtree Pets section is to help the community find good, safe, caring homes for pets.

This section is NOT intended to facilitate breeding, commercial pet trading, trade of dogs for the purpose of fighting, stud services of any animal.

Any ads suspected of this kind of activity will be removed.

Jobs

Each job posting must advertise an individual (one vacancy only) and specific position. Generic postings advertising multiple vacancies or employment services are not allowed category.

Each job posting must be written in English.

Agencies must clearly identify themselves

We do not accept postings which require candidates to send money or stamped addressed envelopes to gain further details of the positions.

We do not accept “commission only” jobs, "multi-level marketing (MLM)" jobs or “work from home” jobs.

We do not accept postings that advertise pyramid selling, or multi-level marketing schemes.

We do not accept job adverts for cash in hand work.

We do not accept postings that contain links to other websites that offer the user job posting facilities.

Job postings should be placed in the category which most closely relates to the actual nature of the vacancy rather than the nature of the employer or industry. If you are unsure post in the 'General Jobs' category.

We ask that all fields in the Job Posting Form be filled out correctly. EG: The “posting title” field to only contain the vacancy title and no location, contact or company details.

We do not accept postings that advertise for models or actors (either male or female) using generic (Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc) email accounts and/or mobile phone numbers. These posters must include a registered agency email address and land line phone number.

We do not accept adverts for Escort/Adult industry work.

We do not accept job adverts for medical trials of any kind.

We reserve the right to remove ads without refund where these breach our Posting Policies and/or our Terms of Use.

Business Services

The “Business Services” sections are for businesses and commercial entities to submit postings advertising their services.

These sections are not for recruitment ads

Please avoid putting your phone number in the title of your ad as it makes the ads very difficult for users to read

All massage services ads on Gumtree must:
* have no photos (business logos are fine)
* state: "not a sexual service"
* state professional qualifications (accreditation, certificates, diplomas, work history etc)

Please note ads that are for "Tantra/Tantric massage" are not allowed on Gumtree

We don't allow duplicate ads (multiple ads advertising the same company’s services). Duplicate ads are extremely frustrating to our users, as they bring no value to the categories in which they appear. Please post no more than one ad advertising your services. The repeated posting of multiple, duplicate ads may lead to a complete deletion of ALL of your ads and restriction of your use of Gumtree.

Ads offering financial services must use a valid business email address and contain a valid business landline number.

Events

Tickets for sale must be advertised in our Stuff For Sale music/sport/event tickets category please click on “change category” above and pick the correct category

The event category is sorted in order of event date and not in order of posted date.

Cars

The vehicles categories are for both private and commercial sellers and buyers.

Do not include pricing or telephone numbers in the title, please make use of the specific fields for this information when creating your ad.

No links to auction sites or links to your ad posted on another site.

Always provide accurate information such as kilometers.

Write the most descriptive and informative ad as possible, users will appreciate a well made ad and you may find you gain a greater response. Remember, you can use as much space as you like and you can even include multiple photos.
