Aims & Objectives
The main aim of the ITEC Diploma in Yoga Teaching is to enable candidates to provide clients with a personalised Yoga programme for their needs to improve overall flexibility as well as detailed lifestyle advice to maintain all aspects of their health and wellbeing. It also aims:
• To provide skills in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Health & Fitness industry.
• To provide opportunities for staff in the Fitness industry to gain a recognised qualification in Yoga Teaching.
• To provide opportunities for candidates to focus on the development of the major key skills and the wider key skills in a Health and Fitness context such as communicating with clients, working with others and problemsolving.
• To provide opportunities for candidates to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Yoga Teacher.
The Programme Components
The ITEC Diploma in Yoga Teaching (recognised as Level 5 on the National
Framework of Qualifications) comprises of:
 Yoga Teaching & the History & Philosophy of Yoga
 ITEC Anatomy & Physiology of Hatha Yoga
 ITEC Business Awareness and Professional Conduct
The qualification has 4 elements:
• Theory examination
• Practical examination
• Portfolio of case studies (10 clients seen twice each)
• 50 hours supervised tuition, including a lesson plan for a 10 wk Yoga course
The candidate will study the theory of Yoga, the different Yoga techniques, the role of a Yoga Teacher, a range of pranayamas and asanas, as well as the anatomy & physiology of the body. A portfolio of case studies is required to be completed for this award. The case studies must be assessed throughout the training by your college lecturer. The case studies ensure that a variety of clients must be consulted and appropriate Yoga programmes formulated. The outcomes of the Yoga programmes must be documented in order to gain experience of working with a variety of clients and conditions whilst candidates are still under supervision. Detailed rationales for the choice of asanas and outcomes must be shown, as well as home care and lifestyle
advice.
Preferred Entry Level: Some experience of training delivery/facilitation is desired but not essential.
